i would use the bow, because it alows more room for error, but the gamo is good if you take headshots.

well i thought that the kill zone would be bigger based on my limited field experience. imho any shot above the "armpit" generally takes out the pump house.

It probally is, i just found this shot placement diagram on another sight, but most the grounghogs i shoot are with rimfires, and if they dont drop, most the time they run in their holes and die

I'd use the .177 with a brain shot. It will shut him down, especially under 20 yards. Shouldn't be a problem, just make the shot!

DO NOT use the JSB Preditors. You NEED all the penetration you can get. Its about putting the lead in the right spot, not expansion. Use a domed pellet shape like the JSB Exacts, Crosman Premiers, RWS superdomes, or Beeman Kodiacs.

The JSB Preditors are more for soft target areas like heart/lung on birds, squirrels, and rats. They will also work on head shots for these smaller animals as they have much thinner bone structures and need less penetration.

If you decide to use the bow, I would use a heart/lung shot. Its a bit bigger and the wider broadhead should destroy the lungs.

Good hunting and let us know how it goes.

Tom

the way my POS bigcat is shooting now i have zero confidence in it. idk what is wrong with that thing.

im going to use my bow for all ground hogs cause if it is with in 40yds its in range and is done for. going to use big mech heads.

for the squirrels and chipmunks im going to use the 2240 i have coming in.

my big cat just need to get thrown away. thing makes me so mad i just want to smash it on the ground.

thanks for posting. dont worry about the archery shot. archery is my number one thing and i know i can smash a hogs brain 15 yds and under (as long as it doesnt move, which it probably will so ill just smash it in the lung/hearts area. a huge mech head should destroy them without issues)

Sounds good... what is the Gamo doing? Maybe post a thread in the springer area to see if we can get it sorted out for you.

I would hesitate to use a mechanical broadhead on a head shot.... just my

idk whats going on. when i first got it i had it hitting at 70 great and 50 yds groups were tight and all. i didnt change ammo and now its like cant even make to to 50 yds. it like it lost it power or something. i will get one good group then next have pellets all over the place. at 20 yds it will group pretty good. after that if I get a good group its shocking.

it just is not shooting like it use to. im not a air gun or gun expert for that matter and i have no clue what to even look at.

i thought it might have just been me at first but i can group good with all my other guns but this. idk. im going to replace it witha new air rifle eventually. probably a benji disco or maurder. i can get away with the 2240 for awhile. ill miss out on far shots but owell. i kinda like a challenge haha

also does the colder effect accuracy or power in air rifles? i havnt shot it in a while cause it been so annoying. i just shoot my 1377 now since small game is over.
