I have an aperture sight from a Chinese CO2 target rifle. In order to zero the rifle at a reasonable range I had to extend the hieght of the front post by super gluing a piece beer can aluminun to it.

Quinn, thank you for a most informative post.I would say as a runner up the schutze is damn good, and at one hundred dollars less a pretty good buy.

Quinn, have you ever removed the front sight on your schutze? I was just wondering if the barrel had grooves towards the muzzle to allow mounting an aperture front sight?

I have removed the front sight. It is easy as it is only force fit to the barrel and held with a set screw. There is no dovetail groove for mounting a front sight. I imagine that you could have one cut by a competent gunsmith or have a sleeve made with a dovetail like the existing sight by a good machinist.

I have found the existing sight to be more than adequate for the ranges that I use my Schute for. (10-20 yards) And that is with my 56 y/o eyes. Just takes me concentrating on the front sight and trigger work. If I'm doing that I can keep most groups under 1" - 1 1/2 shooting off hand standing.

I have a red dot that I may mount one of these days. Be interesting to see what I can do with it.

Thanks Quinn,if I get one I want to put a peep sight on it. Red dot sounds like a neat idea,if you can get one that holds up to recoil of springers.

The red dot I have is a Beeman so no problem as it is made for airgun. I would bet that a good quality red dot that can handle a .22 and higher powder burner would work with a Schutze. The recoil is that light.
